Research conducted by the International Community Platform shows that life satisfaction among internationals in The Hague could be better. GroenLinks (Green Party) wants to raise the bar. There is great potential for internationals in The Hague to enjoy their new city even more.

Local politicians can and should make an effort to make internationals feel at home in the city. This starts with the basics, such as providing for adequate childcare and health care. But it doesn’t stop there. While internationals used to boast about Dutch hospitality and free spirit, they are now questioning why the Dutch seem so intolerant of foreigners?

GroenLinks is a socially engaged party. We want to promote an open-minded attitude and tolerance, especially in this international city of Peace and Justice.

OUR TARGETS
  1. ENVIRONMENT. Clean air, land and water are the foundations for healthy living. The Hague has a beautiful coastline and parks lined with monumental trees. Our party is opposed to building plans that disturbs this natural variation. GroenLinks also believes in putting necessary funds towards reducing air pollution in our city.
  2. ARTS & CULTURE. We live in a city with interesting cultural places and events, some of international importance. The political parties in power (PvdA,D66, VVD and CDA) have made enormous budget cuts in the area of culture and redirected funds to the planned development of a prestigious cultural palace called Spuiforum.  We believe in stimulating culture at all levels including small-scale international and English language events.
  3. SAFETY. Tourists and expats enjoy the cycling opportunities in the city, cycling to work or the beach is nice and part of a healthy lifestyle. Nevertheless, cycling in The Hague can be dangerous. GroenLinks invests more than any other party in safe and attractive cycling routes and stalling possibilities.
  4. EDUCATION. Education is too segregated in The Hague. We aim for a mix of children from all backgrounds attending school together. We would like to see more classrooms where international and Dutch children learn together.
  5. LITERACY At least six libraries have been closed since 2013 due to D66, VVD, PvdA and CDA. GroenLinks will continue to advocate the re-opening of these libraries. We have just recently been able to get the library in the Schilderswijk to be re-opened soon.
  6. CHILD CARE. Child Care is top priority for international families moving to The Hague. GroenLinks strives for excellence and affordable day care.
  7. RECYCLING. Many cities outside the Netherlands have curb-side recycling where municipalities pick-up paper, plastic and organic waste. The Hague has too little of these places. We want recycling to be easy for everyone and want to see complete recycling drop off points at a 500-meter-walk from home.
  8. VOLUNTEERING. Internationals want to contribute to the city by volunteering. GroenLinks wants to put an end to inhibiting rules making this impossible, such as demanding a work permit to be able to volunteer.
  9. CULTURAL DIVERSITY. GroenLinks wants all people in the Hague to feel welcome. This means that the association of criminal behaviour with cultural or religious backgrounds have to be fought and cross cultural meetings and dialogue are to be promoted.
